Creosote and Tar Removal
Fire Work are able to provide a specialist Creosote and tar removal service, removing the most stubborn of creosote build up.
Creosote and Tar removal
Creosote is a by-product from burning wood. When smoke travels up your chimney it solidifies and sticks to the sides of the chimney.
Creosote has three stages. Becoming increasingly hazardous and difficult to remove from your chimney.
- Stage 1 – Light soot that can easily be removed during the standard sweeping process.
- Stage 2 – Shiny, hardened deposits not removable with standard sweeping but usually removable using specialist power sweeping equipment.
- Stage 3 – Solid thick sometimes sticky and sometimes hardened deposits that cannot be removed by the sweeping process. This tar is a highly concentrated fuel and extremely hazardous if it catches fire. A hot fire can easily cause these deposits to ignite causing damage to the chimney and potentially other parts of your property.
Stage 3 creosote requires specialist chemical treatment to be removed, a service which we at Fire Work provide.
