Chimney Inspections
An inspection of your chimneys is a thorough way to assess the condition of your chimneys and identify any issues that should be addressed.
Chimney Inspections
Our team of chimney sweeps carry out inspections on chimneys throughout Scotland, using the most up to date equipment. We utilise various CCTV cameras from small wireless cameras to larger pan and tilt cameras that enable us to inspect all elements of the chimney, both internally and externally.
Additionally we are able to offer a drone service to help provide an aerial view of the external chimney structure.
We carry out chimney inspections for a range of customers including historic building trusts, stove installation companies, local authorities, and domestic residences.
Some reasons to undertake a chimney inspection:
- Problem solving.
If you are already aware of a problem with your chimney, an inspection will help identify the cause of the issue, and what remedial work should be undertaken to address the issue.
- To check for defects that could be allowing harmful gasses to leak from the chimney.
Cracks, missing brick work or deteriorated joints within the flue can result in carbon monoxide leaking into other parts or the property.
- Prior to purchasing a new property.
Inspecting the chimney of a new property pre-purchase can be a useful way to help ensure that there are no unwanted surprises when you complete the purchase of your new home. Undertaking a chimney inspection is especially important on older properties. You can find out more information on our New Homeowner Chimney Inspection page.
- Prior to fitting a new stove or liner.
Undertaking a chimney inspection before committing to upgrading the use of the chimney can ensure the chimney is suitable for the proposed changes.
- After a chimney fire to ensure there is no damage.
Inspecting a chimney after a chimney fire can help determine the condition of the chimney, and identify any issues that may need to be addressed.
- Landlord’s meeting their “duty of care” responsibilities to their tenants.
We often undertake chimney inspections on behalf of landlords and building managers who have a duty of care to ensure maintenance of their buildings is being undertaken to a high standard.
- In order to support an insurance claim.
We can provide a chimney inspection service where an insurance claim may require evidence to support the claim process.
Some of the processes involved in a chimney inspection:
- Visual inspection and measurements
Our experience of chimneys enables us to quickly identify any issues, with a more thorough inspection using equipment such as cameras where necessary.
- Pressure sealed smoke test – to test for leakage.
We often undertake a sealed smoke test to identify if leakage may be occurring.
- CCTV internal inspection.
Our CCTV equipment enables us to inspect elements of the chimney that would have previously been impossible to access.
- Confirm construction and dimensions of chimney.
Inspection of your chimney can help identify the construction of your chimney, and which processes of chimney maintenance would be best suited to your chimney needs.
- Stack pot and cowl inspection, with digital photos documenting any faults.
Our CCTV and drone equipment allows us to identify the condition of your chimney infrastructure in detail.
- Detailed written report with photo or video documentation.
A written report provides a clear summary of any issues identified, along with a suggestion of what actions should be taken to remedy any issues.
